The Relationship Goals that we share

Every start of the year, I am thinking about how I will be living the best year of my life. Whether you are in the early stages of dating your partner, engaged or newlywed, or even well settled in life with someone, you are likely going to think about your future. But a relationship is only as good the communication it is based on.

While it is true that couples should strive for compromise, it may not always work in their favor. It is also true that worth you pretending that you are not. By establishing relationships goals for couples, early on, you can prevent unpleasant surprises and heartache later in life. It’ every couple’s dream to be in a relationship and your special someone who always understands your perspective about the world and wants to build a life with you. After all, we grown-ups don’t like mixed signals. In some cases, couples with different beliefs can live in harmony. But in most cases, it gets old fast. Especially when the day comes to put those beliefs to the test. Trust me.

Some of the many relationship goals can be:

  • To Wed or Not to Wed
  • Decide on Kids or No Kids
  • Bring home the bacon (money). It surely does change everything, doesn’t it?
  • Deciding where to build your home with the partner
  • Set Fitness and Health Goals. When you’re in a relationship, you’re often thinking… acting… exercising… even eating, for two.
  • Having dates in most of the unique places in town involving eat-outs, fun theme rides, and long drives.
  • Helping each other in times of hardship (physical or mental) and being there for each other to strengthen the bond.
  • I cannot stress enough the importance of communication. Talking to one another is crucial to maintaining a happy, honest, and lasting relationship.
  • Whether it is once a week, or once per month, date nights are a fantastic way to escape the day-to-day hustle and bustle that can build up in your relationship.
  • Always be upfront and your relationship will be the better for it.
  • Finally, if you’re afraid that the discussion will escalate into a marathon argument… deal with it. You can sleep when you finally take your last breath.
  • This is one of my favorite relationship goals. If you’re running around in circles some days, it’s crucial to hit the pause button and let each other know that they are still a point of focus and interest in your life.
  • Has anyone seen the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, about a down on his luck businessman who is contemplating a world without him in it any longer?  So, his guardian angel gives him a glimpse into a life where he had never been born. Thus imagine a scene where you have never met your partner before. It’s a great way of learning to appreciate what is right in front of you.

These relationship goals will carry you a long way to a healthier and less turbulent day with your partner. Take them along and consider them part of your daily routine/life. It truly will make a huge impact on your happiness and future output.
